2018 will see a complete overhaul of our recycling program, replacing the current community bin system with a curbside system. Residents will receive new mobile bins at no cost direct to homes. This improved service will be more convenient for residents and will include an expanded list of acceptable recyclable materials, diverting more from the landfill.

The Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission will be launching a new residential recycling program this year, replacing the current system of community bins.  The new service will see blue recycling carts delivered to resident homes, at no charge, beginning in July.  The program for picking up the blue carts will be starting in September.  This new program will see an expansion of recyclables accepted, including more kinds of plastic and tin cans.

The community bins will be decommissioned and picked up beginning August 31, 2018.  With the new program being residential only, those with large amount of recycling such as schools and businesses will need to make arrangements for pick up with the private contractors or by others means.

The following is a brief description of the program:

    ·            Participation in the program is voluntary

    ·            Recyclables placed in blue carts will be collected in the same fashion as the waste program

    ·            Only carts assigned and/or approved by the SNBSC will be used to participate in the residential curbside system

    ·            Blue carts will be assigned to each primary residence

    ·            Recycling pick-ups are on a pre-approved schedule of every 4th week with current waste haulers, with regular garbage picked up on the other 3 weeks (no garbage pick-up on recycling week)

    ·            Acceptable recycling material will be placed loose in the blue cart, no bags allowed
