    SCV Advent Giving Projects

    December 24, 2018

We are raising money to support this CFGB project in Zimbabwe

Mennonite Central Committee Canada is supporting Kulima Mbobumi Training Center with a three-year agriculture and livelihoods project in the Binga district of Matabeleland North totaling $445,000.

Farmers are experiencing severe droughts and constantly declining crop yields due to low soil fertility, land degradation, low annual rainfall and outdated farming practices.

This project aims to reduce poverty and hunger by training farmers in conservation agriculture techniques. 1,929 households (about 9,600 people) are benefitting.

Click here for more info on this project.

We did a Soup, Bread and Dessert lunch after the main service on November 18 and raised over $450 for the local foodbank!

***We were able to make up 60 school kits this year! ***

Thanks to Mary Armstrong for sewing all the bags and to our wonderful youth for assembling them!

Notebooks and pencils are treasures for families who struggle to afford basic school supplies. School kits often are requested after disasters and help bring normalcy to children whose families have been forced to flee their homes.

We’ll be collecting for school kits as a Christmas project this fall. You can help by purchasing items, sewing the needed bags or just by donating cash.If you want to pick up any supplies during back-to-school sales, here is what we need:

Any combination of 4 spiral or perforated-pages notebooks (about 21.5 cm x 27 cm) totalling 500–600 pages, OR 7 spiral or perforated-pages notebooks (80 pages each; about 21.5 cm x 27 cm)
    8 new unsharpened pencils
1 ruler (flat, good quality; must indicate 30 cm; inch markings optional)
    12 coloured pencils (in packaging)
    1 large eraser
2 new black or blue ballpoint pens
1 small metal pencil sharpener (one or two holes)

Go here if you want to know more about it. And let Walter know when you’ve bought stuff or bring it to church.
